The key choice isn't the name: it's the cell size (1" vs 1.5" — bigger = better insulation) and the type (standard blackout, day-and-night dual-mode, waterproof, no-drill, or skylight). 1.5" Double Cell — best insulation

The largest air pocket in this collection. Two layers of honeycomb cells trap air more effectively, reducing heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer. Best choice for bedrooms, living rooms, and any room where energy savings matter. Three options: standard blackout, day/night mode, and top-down bottom-up.

Day & Night Cellular — dual-mode

A 1.5" double cell shade with two distinct fabric zones — one sheer, one blackout. Pull to the “day” position: soft diffused light filters through. Pull to “night”: full blackout. The only honeycomb in this collection that gives you a daytime view option without sacrificing total blackout capability.

1" Single Cell — waterproof & special installs

Thinner cells, lighter profile. Available in four versions: Waterproof (the only honeycomb rated for bathrooms and kitchens), No-Drill (tension bracket mount — no screws), Glass Door (extra-wide, no-drill), and Skylight (overhead installation with angled brackets). Choose 1" when the room is wet, the wall can't be drilled, or the window is overhead.

Good to Know Before You Order

Three things that trip up first-time honeycomb shade buyers:
  • “Cellular shades” and “honeycomb shades” are the same product — both names refer to the air-pocket fabric construction. You'll see both terms used for the same styles; they are not different product categories.
  • 1.5" cells insulate better than 1" cells — the larger air pocket is a more effective thermal barrier. For bedrooms and main living areas where energy efficiency is the goal, choose 1.5". Use 1" where you need waterproofing or a special mounting method (no-drill, skylight).
  • Only the 1" Waterproof Honeycomb is rated for wet rooms — the 1.5" double cell shades use standard fabric that absorbs moisture and will degrade in bathrooms or kitchens. The 1" Waterproof Honeycomb has a splash-resistant fabric (Level 3 out of 5): it handles steam and humidity well, but if water contacts it directly, wipe it dry promptly.
