How to Select the Right Curtain Rods and Tracks?
As the founder of EaseEase Curtains, I've been privileged to participate in countless industry exhibitions. Yet, I often walked away disappointed—distracted by curtain tracks with visibly coarse spray finishes or lacking the strength to handle high-quality, heavyweight curtains.
Curtains are more than just a home accessory for me; they reflect my unwavering commitment to craftsmanship and practicality. Here are the three non-negotiable standards I demand from every curtain track we select for our collections:
- Unparalleled Silence. Noise has no place in my home, especially during cherished moments like drawing the curtains in the early morning without waking a sleeping loved one. Every track must ensure a whisper-quiet operation that enhances rather than disrupts life's tranquility.
- Seamless Glide. Opening or closing curtains should feel effortless—smooth enough to slide with just the lightest touch, never requiring undue force or fuss.
- Strength You Can Trust. The track must withstand the demands of the heaviest, most luxurious drapes without compromising safety or stability.
With these principles guiding our designs, I’ve carefully selected a few exceptional tracks to share with you. Each one has been tested rigorously to ensure it meets not only my standards but also the expectations of homes that value elegance and functionality as much as I do.

How Ceiling Height Affects the Choice Between Curtain Rods and Tracks
At EaseEase Curtains, we believe that selecting the right curtain system starts with understanding your room’s ceiling height. The ceiling height greatly influences how your curtains will look and function. Here’s how to decide between a curtain rod and a track system based on ceiling height:
1. Ceiling Height Above 8 Feet: Curtain Rods Are Your Best Bet
When the ceiling height exceeds 8 feet, a curtain rod is usually the ideal choice. Here’s why:
- Flexibility in Curtain Length: With a curtain rod, you have the freedom to choose the perfect curtain length for your windows, without limitations. For example, in a room with 9-foot windows, you can hang the curtains just the right length, achieving a polished look.
- Avoiding Fabric Jointing: If you choose a track for a taller window (for instance, for a 9-foot window), you would need to make curtains around 108” in length, which often requires two panels to be stitched together. Not only can this look less seamless and detract from the overall appearance, but it also increases the cost due to the additional fabric and labor required. Curtain rods, on the other hand, allow you to install a single piece of fabric for the cleanest look at your desired height.
2. Ceiling Height 8 Feet or Below: Track Systems Enhance the Space
When the ceiling height is 8 feet or below, a track system is a fantastic solution for creating a sleek, modern aesthetic:
- More Expansive and Seamless Look: Using tracks can help create a more open and expansive feel in the room, particularly when the curtains extend from floor to ceiling. Tracks give the appearance of longer, taller walls, making the space seem bigger and more spacious.
- Hides the Hardware: Tracks can be concealed or recessed into the ceiling, making the entire curtain system practically invisible. This is a perfect choice if you want the curtains to blend seamlessly into the room without the distraction of visible rods.
- Avoiding Visual Clutter: In spaces with lower ceilings, curtain rods could create a visual split between the top and bottom halves of the room, especially if the wall is already shorter. Tracks allow for a clean, uninterrupted line, providing a continuous vertical flow.
Common Mistakes When Customizing Curtain Rods
Customizing curtain rods may seem simple, but there are a few crucial mistakes that many people make during the process. Here are the most common errors to avoid:
1. Forgetting the Header Size When Measuring Curtain Rods
When customizing a curtain rod, it’s important to remember that the width of the curtain rail does not include the decorative rod end pieces or headers. If you're installing a wall-to-wall curtain, you’ll need to account for the additional width of the rod’s ends. If you don’t leave room for this, the rod could end up being too short, affecting both the look and function of your curtains. Make sure you add the header size to your measurement before ordering the curtain rod.
2. Misplacing the Curtain Rail or Track Placement
Another common mistake is thinking the curtain rail width should match the exact width of the window, and placing the track just 1 inch above the window frame. This is not only aesthetically unappealing, but it also causes a number of issues:
- Light gaps will form on both the top and sides of the curtains.
- The curtain fabric may directly cover the window, preventing proper light control and giving the space a "closed-off" look. Instead, place the curtain rail at least 6 inches above the window (higher, if you prefer the curtains to touch the ceiling), and make sure it’s wider than the window to cover any light gaps when the curtains are drawn.
3. Not Mounting the Curtain Rail on Studs
A crucial mistake many make is not securing the curtain rail to the studs in the wall. Mounting it onto drywall or other unsupported surfaces may look fine initially, but the weight of the curtain can cause the rod to fall down over time. This can be frustrating, not to mention damaging to your walls. Always mount the curtain rail onto the studs for a secure, long-lasting installation.
To avoid this mistake, it’s best to buy a stud finder to assist with the installation.
