Relaxed Roman Shades
A gentle swooping curve at the bottom hem creates a soft, lived-in look when lowered. More informal and romantic than flat fold — ideal for spaces where the shade stays lowered most of the time. Important: relaxed folds require light hand-shaping each time you raise them to restore the curve. From $140.38.
Hobbled / Soft Fold Roman Shades
Cascading horizontal fabric loops create depth and texture even when fully lowered. The most traditional and formal of the three — adds warmth to dining rooms, primary bedrooms, and formal living rooms. Available with Top-Down Bottom-Up lift for privacy control. From $140.38.
Good to Know Before You Order
- Relaxed shades need manual reshaping after raising — the swooping curved hem doesn't return to shape on its own. Each time you raise a relaxed shade, you'll lightly hand-dress the fabric to reform the curve. This takes seconds, but it matters: if you raise and lower your shades frequently throughout the day, flat fold is more practical. Choose relaxed for windows where the shade stays mostly lowered.
- Bold patterns and prints only look good on flat fold — hobbled and relaxed styles fold the fabric into loops and curves, which break up and distort any printed design. If you love the Striped Roman Shades or French Embroidery Patterned Shades, flat fold is the correct style — the pattern remains uninterrupted across the full width of the window.
- Top-Down Bottom-Up is available in both the Cordless Linen Roman Shade (Flat Fold) and the Hobbled TDBU Roman Shade — lets you lower from the top for overhead light while blocking street-level sightlines, or raise from the bottom as a standard shade.
