  • Light-Reflective velvet in high-traffic areas — the sheen finish shows fingerprints and marks more readily; High-Matte or Soft-Sheen are more forgiving in busy family rooms.

Do velvet curtains show a big colour difference under different lighting?

Yes, a little. Velvet’s pile catches and reflects light differently depending on the angle and time of day, so the same colour can look richer or lighter through the day — this is part of velvet’s signature depth, not a flaw. Because the effect depends on your room’s light, we strongly recommend ordering free fabric swatches first, so you can see the exact shade in your own space — morning and evening — before you order.

After washing, will the velvet pile feel dry or stiff?

No. Our velvet is made for modern living — simply machine wash cold and hang to air dry, and the pile keeps its soft, plush hand. Avoid hot water, tumble drying and ironing directly on the pile (steam lightly from the back if needed). Hang the panels back up while still slightly damp and the velvet naturally regains its smooth, structured drape without drying out or going stiff.

My windows get harsh west-facing sun — will velvet curtains fade within a year or two?

Velvet is more fade-resistant than lightweight fabrics thanks to its dense pile, so it holds up better under strong sun. For darker colours — which can show fading more over time under harsh west-facing sun — we recommend adding a blackout lining to protect the velvet face and keep the colour rich for longer.

Are velvet curtains sound-absorbing and insulating — can they cut street noise in a bedroom?

Yes. Velvet drapes have a dense, heavy weave that makes them one of the best curtain fabrics for comfort: they insulate by blocking drafts and holding warmth, and their thickness absorbs ambient sound. For a street-facing bedroom they noticeably soften outside noise — most effective hung floor-to-ceiling and wider than the window, with a lining and a generous 2x or more fullness. Note that velvet dampens and reduces noise rather than fully soundproofing the room.

Are velvet curtains suitable for a Ripple Fold heading, or is the fabric too stiff for neat waves?

Yes. Although velvet is heavier than linen or cotton, our velvet is weight-calibrated to drape rather than stiffen, so it forms soft, even waves and glides smoothly on a track — we pair it with heavy-duty ripple fold track so the waves stay uniform. If you prefer a more structured, tailored look, velvet also works beautifully in pinch pleat.

What's the difference between High-Matte, Soft-Sheen and Light-Reflective velvet?

High-Matte absorbs light for the deepest, calmest look — ideal for bedrooms and home theaters. Soft-Sheen has a subtle, balanced sheen that suits most living rooms. Light-Reflective has a luminous, opulent shimmer for glamorous, dramatic spaces. All three are the same plush velvet, just with different surface finishes.

Are velvet curtains good for blackout or a home theater?

Yes. Velvet's dense pile is naturally room-darkening, and a High-Matte finish absorbs the most light for a dim, cinema-like room. For true blackout, add a blackout lining and hang the panels floor-to-ceiling and wider than the window so light cannot leak around the edges.
