How Ceiling Height Affects Your Choice
- Ceiling Height Above 8 Feet: Curtain rods are your best bet — no fabric jointing needed.
- Ceiling Height 8 Feet or Below: Track systems create a more open and expansive feel, especially when concealed in the ceiling.
Common Mistakes When Customizing Curtain Rods
1. Forgetting the Header Size
The width of the curtain rail does not include the decorative rod end pieces. Make sure you add the header size to your measurement before ordering.

2. Misplacing the Curtain Rail
Place the curtain rail at least 6 inches above the window, and make sure it's wider than the window to cover any light gaps when the curtains are drawn.

3. Not Mounting on Studs
Always mount the curtain rail onto the studs for a secure, long-lasting installation. Mounting onto drywall can cause the rod to fall down over time.
