FAQs about Day and Night Blinds

How do day and night blinds work?

Day and night blinds, also called zebra or vision blinds, have two layers of fabric with alternating sheer and solid stripes. As you move the shade, the stripes either line up, solid over solid, to block light and add privacy, or offset, sheer over sheer, to let in light and a view. That sliding action is what lets you switch between day and night modes.

Can people see through day and night blinds at night with the lights on?

With the bands closed (solid over solid), day and night blinds give strong privacy during the day. At night, once indoor lights are on, soft silhouettes can still be visible from outside through the solid bands, as with most light-filtering shades. For complete nighttime privacy in bedrooms or street-facing rooms, add a blackout shade or curtain.

Do day and night blinds fully block out light?

Not completely. In closed mode they significantly dim a room and block the direct view inside, but the sheer bands and small edge gaps still let some light through, so they are not a true blackout. If you need total darkness for sleep, choose blackout shades, or layer a blackout shade behind your day and night blind.

What's the difference between day and night blinds and zebra shades?

They are essentially the same product. Day and night blinds, zebra shades, and vision blinds are simply different names for the same dual-layer striped roller shade. Whatever it is called, the mechanism and benefits are identical: adjustable sheer-or-solid banding that gives flexible light and privacy in a single shade.

Which rooms are day and night blinds best for?

They shine in living rooms, dining rooms, kitchens, and home offices, where you want to fine-tune light and privacy throughout the day without swapping coverings. For bedrooms and media rooms that need full darkness and nighttime privacy, pair them with a blackout shade or choose blackout instead.
