FAQs about Day and Night Blinds

What are day and night blinds?

Day and night blinds (also called zebra blinds or vision blinds) use two alternating layers of fabric — sheer and opaque bands — mounted on a roller. As you pull the cordless handle, the bands slide past each other: align sheer over sheer for soft diffused light and an outside view, or align solid over solid for privacy and room dimming. One shade, two modes, adjusted in seconds.

Do day and night blinds block light completely at night?

It depends on the style. Zebra Blinds and Shangri-La Sheer Shades are room darkening — they significantly dim the room and block direct sightlines in solid-closed mode, but are not completely lightproof. Day and Night Cellular Shades and Double Roller Blinds deliver total blackout — no light passes through in closed mode. If you need complete darkness for sleep, choose Cellular Shades or Double Roller.

Can people see through day and night blinds at night?

For room-darkening styles (Zebra Blinds and Shangri-La Sheer Shades): once indoor lights are on after dark, soft silhouettes can become visible from outside through the solid bands. This is most noticeable in street-facing bedrooms. For Day and Night Cellular Shades and Double Roller Blinds (both totally blackout), no silhouettes are visible — these are the better choice for bedrooms where nighttime privacy matters most.

What is the difference between Zebra Blinds and Double Roller Blinds?

Zebra Blinds have a single dual-layer roller (sheer + solid bands) — room darkening in closed mode. Double Roller Blinds have two separate rollers in one cassette: a sheer roller for daytime and an independent blackout roller for true complete darkness. Double Roller requires more window recess depth (at least 3.5 inches). If you need total blackout at night, choose Double Roller Blinds or Day and Night Cellular Shades. For flexible room-darkening light control, Zebra Blinds are the simpler and more affordable choice.

What is the difference between Zebra Blinds and Shangri-La Sheer Shades?

Both use alternating bands of sheer and opaque material, but the material and operation differ. Zebra Blinds use a roller-film material — waterproof, cordless, and slightly more structured. Shangri-La Sheer Shades use soft woven fabric bands — a premium, drapery-like appearance with a softer drape. Shangri-La is corded; Zebra Blinds are cordless. For formal living rooms or dining areas where aesthetics matter most, Shangri-La. For everyday use, kitchens, or bathrooms, Zebra.
