Good to Know Before You Order

Three things about Roman shades that trip up first-time buyers:
  • Relaxed shades need manual reshaping after raising — the swooping curved hem doesn't return to shape on its own. Each time you raise a relaxed shade, you'll lightly hand-dress the fabric to reform the curve. This takes seconds, but it matters: if you raise and lower your shades frequently throughout the day, flat fold is more practical. Choose relaxed for windows where the shade stays mostly lowered.
  • Bold patterns and prints only look good on flat fold — hobbled and relaxed styles fold the fabric into loops and curves, which break up and distort any printed design. If you love the Striped Roman Shades or French Embroidery Patterned Shades, flat fold is the correct style — the pattern remains uninterrupted across the full width of the window.

Should Roman shades be inside mounted or outside mounted?
