What is the difference between light-filtering and blackout linen roller shades?

Light-filtering linen has a small open weave (about 1–5% openness) that softens daylight into a warm glow while keeping daytime privacy. Blackout linen has 0% openness and blocks light through the fabric. For a truly dark room, choose the blackout variant and add aluminum U-channel side strips to close the side gaps.

Do linen roller shades give privacy day and night?

Light-filtering and clear-view linen give good daytime privacy, but at night — when it is darker outside than in — interior lights can make silhouettes visible from outside. For full privacy day and night, choose the blackout linen, ideally with side strips.

Can linen roller shades fully block out light?

Yes — the blackout linen blocks 100% of light through the fabric. Once installed, the fabric sits roughly 1/2" away from the wall on each side (this is an installation clearance, not a size deduction), so pair the blackout fabric with aluminum U-channel light-blocking strips for near-zero light gap. This is one of the few roller shades that can reach near-complete blackout. An outside mount that overlaps the frame also reduces side spill.

Are linen roller shades cordless and child-safe?

Yes. The standard lift is a cordless free-stop system — no chains or dangling cords — so it is safe around children and pets and stops precisely at any height. The fabric is OEKO-TEX® certified for low-VOC, skin-safe materials. A motorized option is also available.

Should I inside-mount or outside-mount, and what window depth do I need?

Inside mount gives a clean, built-in look and needs at least 2" of window depth (4" for double-layer). Measure your casing width, subtract 1/4" yourself, and order that figure (e.g. a 50" casing = order 49 3/4") — every shade is made to exactly the size you submit, so please apply the deduction before ordering. Outside mount has no depth requirement and is best for blocking light — add 4–6" to the width and 2–3" to the height so the fabric overlaps the frame.

Are linen roller shades okay for kitchens and bathrooms?

Yes. The linen fabric is stain-resistant, mold-resistant and UV-resistant, so it stands up to steam, humidity and direct sun in kitchens, bathrooms and sunrooms without warping or fading.

How do I clean linen roller shades?

Very little upkeep is needed. Regularly dust or vacuum with a brush attachment; for marks, wipe gently with a damp cloth. The stain- and mold-resistant finish means no special cleaning routine is required.

Can I get linen roller shades motorized, and what sizes are available?

Yes. The cordless free-stop lift is standard; motorized adds remote, voice and app control with a rechargeable battery that needs recharging only about every 6–8 months (USB charging). Cordless sizes run from 8"–98" wide and 10"–118" tall; motorized runs 22"–110" wide and 10"–118" tall. Every shade is made to your exact measurements.
