Day and Night Blinds: One Shade, Two Modes — Know Which Level of Darkness You Need

Day and night blinds use two alternating layers of fabric — sheer and opaque bands — that slide past each other. Align sheer-over-sheer: soft diffused light. Align solid-over-solid: room darkening or complete blackout. One cordless pull switches between them. Light level varies by style: Zebra Blinds and Shangri-La Sheer Shades are room darkening; Day and Night Cellular Shades and Double Roller Blinds deliver total blackout.

Day mode ☀️

Sheer bands align over sheer bands — natural light filters through softly while maintaining a view outside. Ideal for working from home or daytime living areas.

Night mode 🌙

Solid bands align over solid bands — room darkening or full blackout depending on the style. Zebra and Shangri-La significantly dim the room; Cellular Shades and Double Roller deliver total blackout.

Good to Know Before You Order

Darkness level varies by product — here's exactly what each delivers:
  • Zebra Blinds and Shangri-La Sheer Shades are room darkening, not blackout — in solid-closed mode they significantly dim the room and block direct sightlines, but are not completely lightproof. For total darkness, choose Cellular Shades or Double Roller Blinds.
  • Day and Night Cellular Shades are totally blackout — the 1.5" honeycomb construction blocks all light in closed mode, while the day mode gives soft diffused light. Also the only option in this collection that adds thermal insulation.
  • With room-darkening blinds on at night, silhouettes may be visible from outside — once indoor lights are on, soft outlines can be seen through the solid bands of Zebra or Shangri-La. Street-facing bedrooms are most affected. Choose Cellular or Double Roller to eliminate this.
  • Shangri-La Sheer Shades are corded, not cordless — if you require a cordless option, choose Zebra Blinds, Cellular Shades, or Double Roller Blinds instead.
  • Double Roller Blinds need more window recess depth — two rollers sit inside one headrail. Measure your window recess (at least 3.5" recommended) before ordering.
