Why does my blackout curtain still let light in?
Almost always at the edges rather than through the fabric. Light travels around the sides, over the top of the rod and under the hem. Extending the rod well past the frame, adding return brackets or a ceiling track, and allowing generous overlap fixes more than upgrading the fabric does.
Is there a real difference between blackout and room darkening?
Yes. Blackout aims to stop light passing through the fabric entirely; room darkening cuts most of it but leaves a dim glow. For a nursery or a shift worker, that difference matters. For a living room, room darkening is often the more comfortable choice.
Do blackout curtains help with heat?
They help, because a dense lining blocks solar gain, but thermal performance comes from the lining structure rather than from opacity. If summer heat is the main problem, look at thermal or cellular constructions rather than at the blackout rating alone.
